Honey Wine for Sale in the Eastern Townships
A few years ago I spent a week cycling through Quebec’s Eastern Townships. It was September – a perfect time to visit – with just the right chill in the air to make cycling comfortable.
Although I was primarily there for the scenery I was also interested in the food scene. The Eastern Townships are famous for duck, apples, cheese and even wine. But I hadn’t appreciated that you’d be able to find honey wine.

Honey wine – also called the nectar of the gods – is thought to be the oldest alcoholic beverage known to mankind. I passed this barn – but it was pouring rain and I just wanted to get to my destination.

In hindsight I regret that I didn’t stop for a tasting.
Have you ever tried honey wine – also known as mead?
For further reading here’s a great list of some of the best food and drinks you can find in the Eastern Townships. I can also say that some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten was at Guacamole and Tequila in Magog; I just hope they’ve kept the quality and improved the service.
